The Northern Uganda Music Awards (NUMA) were established to celebrate and elevate the rich musical talent of Northern Uganda, providing a platform for artists across genres such as traditional Luo music, hip-hop, gospel, and Afro-pop. Created to promote regional talent and boost recognition, NUMA highlights outstanding artists through various award categories and offers performance opportunities that help grow and strengthen the region’s music industry.
Okot Juma Jammie is the Chief Executive Officer of NUMA, the region’s leading annual music awards that spotlights musical talent across Northern Uganda — from traditional, gospel and hip-hop to Afro-pop and emerging genres. Under his leadership, NUMA has grown from humble beginnings (when the “Best Music Artist of the Year” once received a modest cash prize) into a recognized platform offering meaningful cash prizes, opportunities for radio airplay, and support for regional artists, boosting the visibility of Northern-Ugandan music.
